  • WHAT IS CREMATION

Cremation is a specialized process by which your pet's remains are reduced by exposure to intense heat into very small bone fragments and a sandy ash. The ashes are odorless, sterile, weigh only a fraction of the pet's original weight, and can be safely stored indefinitely. You may choose to keep, scatter or bury them.

  • IS CREMATION THE SAME FOR PEOPLE AS IT IS FOR PETS?

Yes. The process is exactly the same. In fact, all of our equipment is exactly the same type as used in the human cremation field. Our equipment is only used to cremate pets.

  • WHAT IS THE COST OF CREMATION?

The cost for cremation depends on a number of factors, including the weight of your pet and if you choose a private or separate cremation with your pet's sole remains returned to you or a country cremation and the ashes are not returned. The cost can range from $80 - $485. We will be happy to quote you a price and fully explain the options.

  • CAN I TOUR OR BE PRESENT FOR THE CREMATION?

Yes, we have an open-door policy and a comfortable waiting area, but we do ask that you call the schedule a time to visit us. We respect each client's privacy and will schedule a time when you will have the full use and privacy of our facility.

  • HOW WILL MY PET BE RETURNED

Each pet that is cremated will be returned in a very conservative-like container, however, you may look at our other urns available and choose something more decorative. The cremated remains will be secured and returned with a certificate certifying the cremation and the date of the cremation with your pet's name.   We have a variety of specialty urns and will be happy to assist you if you choose an alternative.

  • CAN PET REST EUTHANIZE MY PET AT HOME?

No, but we work with the best mobile vets in the area, if your normal veterinarian is not able to make a house call. You may call us, and we can help make arrangements and coordinate to meet your needs.

  • WHAT DO I DO IF MY VET DOES NOT USE YOUR SERVICE BUT I WANT PET REST TO HANDLE THE TRANSPORTATION AND CREMATION FOR ME?

Simply tell your Vet that Pet Rest will be handling the transportation and cremation arrangements and your pet should be held for us. Then give us a call at (843) 797-5735,  and we will immediately make arrangements to pick up your pet and their cremated remains will be returned to you. You may also use our pre-planning service so that you will have the comfort of knowing in advance that your pet is in the best possible hands.

  • IF MY PET DIES AT HOME OR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, WHAT SHOULD I DO HOW MUCH TIME DO I HAVE?

Normally at room temperature, you have 36-72 hours before any major decomposition is noticeable. We recommend keeping the body as cool as possible. We will transport your pet at a time that is convenient for you. If it is in the middle of the night you may call us and leave a message at any hour, we can be at your home that morning.

  • CAN I BURY MY PET IN MY BACK YARD?

You must first check with your local municipality or HOA. Many towns and cities have ordinances against pet burial in residential areas. Also consider that if you move, you may want to be able to take your pet or the cremated remains with you.

  • WHAT IF I DO MOVE AND I BURIED MY PET, BUT I DO NOT WANT TO LEAVE HIM/HER?

We will be glad to cremate any remains that are in the ground, we can also provide assistance in removal if necessary.

  • CAN I BURY MY PET'S ASHES?

Yes, you can, burying and scattering are options. We suggest spending some quiet time to reflect on your pet's personality and what your needs may be, if you listen closely your pet will let you know what should be done.

  • WHAT HAPPENS TO MY REMAINS IF I CHOOSE THE COUNTRY OPTION?

All of our country's remains are placed in a beautiful and private place in the Lowcountry.
